Homemade Mustard
I have never made this, but I'm going to try it. I suppose the reason for making your own is that homemade usually is better...plus you can adjust ingredients to suit your own taste. I would guess that it is not cheaper than store bought so that is not a reason to make your own. Here's the recipe if you want to try it.
1/2 cup dry mustard
1/2 cup flour
1 tsp salt
1 tablespoon sugar
1/2 cup white vinegar
1/2 cup water
2 eggs
1/2 tsp tumeric
1 tablespoon butter/margarine
Mix ingredients in the order given. Cook over low heat, stirring constantly until mixture thickens. Remove from heat, add butter. Cool and pour into jar.
I don't know how long this keeps. Probably not as long as store bought since it has no preservatives. I would suggest keeping refrigerated.
I'll add to this after I try the recipe and let you know how it turned out.
Would be interested in comments from anyone that has made their own mustard before.
